Meet Our New Neighbor, Climate Pledge Arena
During your next stay with us, check out Seattle’s newest sports and music venue, the Climate Pledge Arena. From Hotel Ändra, it’s just a short walk to the recently upgraded Westlake Center Station, where you can ride the Monorail to Seattle Center. Sitting on the Seattle Center grounds, Climate Pledge Arena replaces what was originally known as the Seattle Center Coliseum, built in the 1960s for the 1962’s “Century 21 Exposition,” aka World’s Fair at the base of the infamous Seattle Space Needle.
The arena was rebuilt, preserving the original roof from the Seattle Center Coliseum, and boasts itself as the “world’s most sustainable arena.” The $1.15 billion remodel makes it one of the newest and technologically advanced arenas in the world. Not only is it home to the NHL’s newest team, the Seattle Kraken, but this spring, the arena will welcome four-time WNBA champions, the Seattle Storm, and rumor has it that the return of an NBA franchise isn’t far behind. Of course, being Seattle, the venue is also equipped with state-of-the-art speakers and was designed with live music in mind. The concert calendar is already packed well into 2022.
Sustainability is taken very seriously at Climate Pledge Arena. The ice for the hockey rink is made from rainwater collected off the roof, then stored and purified underground. The arena is powered by solar panels from the rooftop and parking garage as well as nearby solar farms. Everything in the arena is electric, they even built the first electric Zamboni to clear the ice between hockey periods. When you eat or drink, almost everything you buy is compostable or recyclable. The arena has pledged to be 100% free of single-use plastics by 2024.
The technology in the arena is beyond compare. Boasting the most LED panels in any stadium in North America, many of the walls are constantly moving to immerse you in an underwater experience during Kraken games or among the pine trees during concerts. Using Amazon’s Just Walk Out technology, many of the concession stands in the arena don’t require you to checkout. Simply enter your credit card upon entry or wave your palm if you have Amazon One ID, and you can grab-n-go at your convenience, giving you more time to enjoy your concert or sporting event.
