Why MoPOP is a Must-Visit Museum

Downtown Seattle’s Museum of Pop Culture, affectionately known as MoPOP, should be on every visitor’s list. Especially in February, aka Seattle Museum Month, when tickets are half price for our Hotel Ändra guests.

You literally can’t miss the building – even before you step inside. This mind-bending metallic structure has all the signature elements of legendary architect Frank Gehry since it opened in 2004.

Come here to experience some of the most famous moments in music, TV, movies and pop culture. Exhibits celebrate the art of fantasy, horror movies, and video games to sci-fi literature and rock. From the legendary guitars of Jimi Hendrix to set pieces from movie icons like “Star Wars” and “The Lord of the Rings,” MoPOP is devoted to cool memorabilia.

Music fans can get lost in paradise exploring MoPOP’s vast collection of musical instruments, costumes, and interactive exhibits. Channel your inner rockstar as you strum Hendrix’s iconic Fender Stratocaster or lose yourself in the psychedelic world of Nirvana’s grunge revolution.

One of the crown jewels of MoPOP is the Science Fiction and Fantasy Hall of Fame, a tribute to the visionary creatives who have redefined our understanding of the universe. Lose yourself in Tolkien’s Middle-earth, journey through the cosmos with Isaac Asimov, or search for truth and justice alongside Superman and Wonder Woman.

For families, MoPOP offers plenty of educational opportunities disguised as entertainment. Hands-on activities, interactive workshops, and programs are designed to spark curiosity. Whether you’re a budding artist, a seasoned musician, or a devoted fan, MoPOP invites you to unleash your creativity and embrace the magic of pop culture.

MoPOP also helps shape future artists. Don’t miss the annual Sound Off! Showcase which kicks off Saturday, February 17th. Here’s your chance to see the next big thing in PNW music in a live battle-of-the-bands competition. Ten artists under 21 take the Sky Church stage for three nights of heart, guts, and glory. Check out the artists and book tickets here.

Rain or shine MoPOP is a hub of imagination, where families, fans and anyone interested in pop culture can immerse themselves in the music, films and literature that continue to shape generations.

MoPOP is located at Seattle Center, near the Space Needle and Chihuly Garden and Glass. It’s a terrific way to spend an afternoon. The most convenient and fun way to visit from our hotel is by our Monorail, which was originally built for the 1962 Seattle World’s Fair! Hop on at the Westlake Center Monorail Station, which is a five-minute walk from the hotel. The Monorail ride takes about two minutes to reach Seattle Center.

Hot Tip: Book our Kultur Package for an additional 10% off your rate and FREE parking when you show your ticket stub to MoPOP or any visual and performing arts during your stay!
